Seattle Kraken - Motion Graphics Project

Seattle Kraken Motion Graphics
Motion Graphics Concept Project
This was a concept project where I designed and created motion graphics for a faux Kraken hockey broadcast, which includes animated overlays for video footage as well as standalone clips. The challenge was in designing dynamic animated graphics that convey complex data clearly while keeping viewers engaged. To showcase my results, I edited together a reel of the the motion assets I created.

*The broadcast footage I used is property of ROOT Sports and was used purely for educational purposes.
The Brand

The main goal of this project was to work within the current brand guidelines of the Seattle Kraken. I did my best to make these graphics blend in with the rest of their motion and marketing assets. Luckily, I was put in direct contact with a graphic designer, as well as a senior motion designer who work for the Kraken, and they provided me with all the brand guidelines and assets I needed!
Mood Board

I wanted to keep the oceanic theme of the brand, but I wanted to incorporate it into hockey by having the water and other assets freeze over as a transitional device. I love the drama and mystery behind the Kraken and wanted to really lean into the drama and make the motion graphics very cinematic.
Storyboards

Admittedly, my storyboarding for this project was pretty rough. Since this was my first major motion project, I was not quite sure what I would be able to accomplish, or at least make look good. Now that I have a better idea of After Effects capabilities, in future projects I will have them much more dialed in. Below are couple of the more coherent sketches I did.
